Today�#tbt #TBT is another look at the SPFD's 1974 Seagrave ladder truck.
A footnote….The Roto-Ray was not original to the truck. A Mars 888 light was original…it lasted until the mounting system rusted and the Mars light fell out! The wide plate housing the replacement Roto-Ray is evidence of the paint peeling/rust problem that truck had. Having said that, this was still a good truck that saw a lot of work during its time on Sterling…and beyond.

Tree Fire for Monday Volunteers
Shortly after shift change on Monday Engine 618 was alerted for a tree on fire in Algonkian park. After approximately 15 minutes of hiking the burning tree was found. E618 called for Tower 611 to respond and bring additional equipment and manpower. The tree was felled and crews worked to expose and extinguish the smoldering fire.

Saturday Night Townhouse Fire
Around 9:45 on Saturday night Engine 618, staffed with a mixed SVFC Volunteer and LCFR Career crew, was alerted, along with Engine 611 and Tower 611, for a townhouse fire in Sugarland. Also on the call were Engine and Rescue 439, Engine and Truck 425, and Battalion Chief 401 from Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department, Battalion Chief 601, Safety 601, EMS 601, and Operations 600 from Loudoun County Fire and Rescue, and Medic 625 from Sterling Volunteer Rescue Squad.
Engine 618 arrived shortly and reported smoke visible from the townhouse, established command, and pulled an initial attack line. The Tower interior crew, along with Rescue 439, began to search the structure for occupants. Engine 611 pulled a 2nd attack line, while the drivers of Engine 618 and 611 completed a water supply. Engine 439 set up for an alternative water supply and pulled a 3rd hose line so it would be ready if needed. Tower 611 exterior crew, along with Truck 425, ensured that there were ground ladders available, that there was plenty of lighting, and utilities were secured. Engine 425 became the Rapid Intervention Team. Units quickly extinguished the fire, ensured that there was no further fire spread (including checking neighboring units), and began smoke removal. LouLoudoun County Sheriff's Officeffice provided traffic and crowd control. Once things were stable some units were returned to service while others remained to pack up and assist the Fire Marshal in their investigation.
